As we approach December 2013 as the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Federal Reserve Act, businesses, entrepreneurs, bankers, policymakers, academics and economists from around Virginia are invited to join the VACC’s 6^th Annual Economic Forum which is open to the public.

           The topic to be highlighted is “Five Questions about the Federal Reserve Bank and Monetary Policy." Committed to foster a sustainable economic recovery and knowing that although monetary policy cannot cure the economy's ills, particularly in today's challenging circumstances, the Federal Reserve Bank seems to think it can provide meaningful help.  People are eager to know more about the nation’s central bank, the Federal Reserve Bank, what it does, and why it does what it does, and how does it help foster economic sustainability. For those wishing to know more about the role of “the Fed”, Vice President and Senior Economist Ray Owens. Bio.

Mr. Owens will answer the following five questions:   

1. What are the Fed's objectives, and how is it trying to meet them?
2. What's the relationship between the Fed's monetary policy and the fiscal decisions of the Administration and Congress?
3. What are the goals of the monetary policy and some examples of monetary policy tools?
4. What is the risk that the Fed's accommodative monetary policy will lead to inflation?
5. How does the Fed's monetary policy affect businesses, investors, savers?

STEP A

From the South    

Take I-95 North to Exit 74‐A, Downtown Expressway (I‐195). Take the Downtown Expressway to the exit for Canal Street. Follow Canal Street to 5th Street. Turn left on 5th Street and continue approximately two blocks, crossing over Byrd Street. Proceed to Step B.

From the North

Take I ‐95 South to Exit 75 (64 East). Immediately take the 3rd Street Exit (also Coliseum). Follow 3rd Street to Byrd Street. Turn left on Byrd Street. Turn right on 5th Street. Proceed to Step B.

From the East

Take I ‐64 West to Exit 190, 5th Street Exit. Follow 5th Street crossing over Byrd Street. Proceed to Step B.

From the West

Take I‐64 East to Exit 186, Downtown Expressway (I‐195). Take the Byrd Street/2nd Street Exit. Follow Byrd Street and turn right on 5th Street. Proceed to Step B.

STEP B

You will park at the BYRD STREET PARKING DECK on P6.

Instructions: Make first left into lot for Federal Reserve Bank parking deck and then make an immediate left to enter the parking deck. Press the red button to announce yourself and Law Enforcement will pass you through the gate. After parking car on level P6, take elevator or stairs down to level P1 and exit. Note: elevator is located in the southeast corner of the parking deck and is accessible from levels P1‐P5 only.

The Federal Reserve main entrance is located on Byrd Street between 7th Street and 9th Street. After exiting the parking deck walk up 7th Street toward Byrd Street. At the intersection, turn right onto Byrd street and you will see the front of the building. Keep walking until you reach the second gate to be checked in by Law Enforcement.

At this point, Bank staff will be positioned to assist you with screening and escorting you to your destination.

Important Note:  

All visitors must present a picture ID to Security prior to entering the building. All persons entering the building are subject to metal detection.
